There are many ways to treat dry skin. You really don’t have to suffer with this issue all year round. By making a few small changes to my daily routine, I got rid of redness and my skin was no longer as flaky. It feels amazing.

1. Use A Humidifier

Using a humidifier is one of the easiest and best ways to help your skin stay hydrated and supple. During the winter months when the air is colder and we turn on our heater, the skin does not hold as much moisture as it does during the warmer months. Humidifiers infuse the air with moisture, soothing dried out, and itchy skin.

2. Lower Water Temperature When Taking A Shower

Lowering the temperature in your shower to a lukewarm temperature is more ideal for dry skin, especially when the temperature outside dips and there’s a temptation of taking scolding hot showers.

3. Use Natural And Organic Oils

You truly cannot have a better companion for your dry skin than many of the organic oils currently on the market. Many of these oils not only cater to all skin types but are also made of completely natural ingredients that contain specially nourishing botanicals and essential fatty acids that reduce inflammation and banish dryness. Gently rub some into your elbows, face, knees and anywhere else on your body that’s dry. Aging might be inevitable, but there are several factors that speeds up the aging process. The main factor is the rate at which free radicals bio-accumulate in our body. The free radical theory of aging (FRTA) states that organisms age because cells accumulate free radicals over time.

What are free radicals and how can we go about preventing them?

Free radicals are broken atoms in our cells searching for electrons with which to bond. They can start a speedy chain reaction when oxygen interacts with the atoms. This matingprocess leads to cellular damage and premature aging of our skin.

A good example to visualize free radical activities in our body will be to slice an apple in half and watch it turn brown. The progressive brownish color is an indication of free radical activity due to the presence of oxygen. This whole process is called oxidation and to efficiently keep oxidation in check within our body, antioxidants are intimately involved.

Antioxidants are molecules that come from nature. They neutralize free radicals by donating their electrons to end the radical chain reaction’s domino effect. Our body cannot produce antioxidants so it is of utmost importance that we source antioxidant-rich nutrients in our foods, as well as our skin and hair care products.

Although research has proven that there are various enzymes in our body that can counteract free radical activities, scientists believe that antioxidants still remain the principal terminator of free radicals. Vitamin C, beta-carotene (Vitamin A), and Vitamin E are micro nutrient antioxidants.

Vitamin C:

These are natural ascorbic acids that are water-soluble and are present in citrus fruits, spinach, broccoli, kale, green peppers, kiwi, cantaloupe, kiwi, strawberries and blueberries.


These vitamins are present in liver, egg yolk, milk, butter, spinach, broccoli, yams, tomato, peaches and grains. Beta-carotene is a precursor to Vitamin A.

Vitamin E:

These are fat-soluble vitamins that are present in nuts, seeds, vegetables and fish oils, whole grains, and fortified cereals. Vitamin E is known to contain the most abundant antioxidants and are highly effective at preventing and repairing free radical damage. You’ve reached adulthood and you probably feel like you definitely have a handle on your daily activities.

Getting to work on time? Check. Working out in the evenings? Check.  Brushing your teeth? Not so fast. Most of us never give it a second thought, but as it turns out, a huge number of adults brush their teeth incorrectly, putting their mouth at risk of tooth decay and preventable tooth erosion.

It’s not a science, but there is a technique to it.

It’s normal to hold your toothbrush at a 90° angle to your teeth, but that’s a big no-no since you are more likely to damage your gums this way. To properly brush your teeth, tilt the brush at a 45 angle away from the gum line and use a gentle circular motion, paying extra attention to the hard to reach areas around fillings, crowns and back teeth.

Can you spare 120 seconds for tooth brushing?

Proper brushing takes at least 2 minutes and most adults do not spend nearly as much time brushing their teeth each day. To properly remove cavity-causing bacteria, one should brush more than a minute at a time thoroughly cleaning each section as follows;

  1. Target the outer and inner surfaces of your upper teeth
  2. Clean the inner and outer surfaces of your lower teeth
  3. Gently clean the chewing surfaces
  4. Brush your tongue for fresher breath

Consider replacing your toothbrush

Old toothbrushes are ineffective and you should consider replacing your toothbrush every 3-6months. Your old toothbrush is like a disease magnate, especially after you’ve been sick since the bristles can collect germs that can lead to reinfection.
